Oral history interview with Gene Freeland, 1980 October 12.

Interview with Gene Freeland, a labor official, concerning his experiences as a member of the Dallas Council of AFL-CIO. Freeland discusses his early experiences in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers at Dallas Power and Light, his time as union steward in the Meter Service Division (1958), as union president (1960), as union business manager (1962-1965), and as secretary-treasurer of the Dallas AFL-CIO (1965-1979). He also talks about the problems of labor organizing in Texas, the Texas government and organized labor, women and organized labor, ethnic minorities and organized labor, the Texas "right-to-work" law, organized labor and community involvement, Dallas city government and organized labor, and industrial versus construction unions.
